The Panhellenic Association

The Panhellenic Association is the largest women's group on campus, representing about 2,000 women. It is the governing body of the 11 National Panhellenic Sororities at UNC and one Associate Member Sorority. The Association coordinates numerous activities, including recruitment and promoting excellence in academics, community and campus involvement and sisterhood. The Council is made up of eight executive board members as well as each chapter president and one delegates from every chapter on campus.

People ask why I am in a sorority and I try to explain the things a sorority is that they cannot see. A sorority is more than letters on a sweatshirt, I say. More than traditional songs, a gold pin, rituals, and obligation, or a way of life. A sorority is learning about people. A sorority is giving without expecting a return. A sorority is earning respect from others, as well as for yourself.

Scholarship

Panhellenic encourages academic success. Greek women consistently have a higher grade point average than non-Greek women and the All-University average.  For academic support, the council and chapters provide structured study halls, scholarships, study partner programs, educational programs, and awards to challenge their members to attain their full academic potential.

Leadership

The leadership skills and knowledge you gain through your sorority experience will prove to be invaluable throughout your college career. Numerous leadership positions are available within sororities and 9 out of 10 members also hold leadership positions in other campus organizations. These leadership opportunities enhance your character and your career development.

Service

The Panhellenic Association adopted the UNC Center of Excellence for Eating Disorders in 2010 as our Philanthropy. Each year we host an event called Greek Groove to raise money for the Center and assist in their efforts and outreach. Service involvement is also an important part of sorority life for our chapters. Sororities spend time working together on philanthropy projects and community activities. Each sorority supports at least one national philanthropic organization. To find out more about the philanthropic efforts of each chapters please refer to the Meet Our Chapters link.
