Ion has twenty-plus years of experience in Higher Education and continues to be a strong advocate for students. He is now serving as the Director of Fraternity and Sorority Life at UNC Chapel Hill.  He was the formal Director of College and Career Readiness for Nash Community College and the formal Associate Dean of Academic Affairs and Student Services at Martin Community College. He has worked as the Assistant Dean of Students, the Director of Greek Life, and Assistant Director of Admissions at East Carolina University.  He received a BS degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing from Winston-Salem State University in December 1995 and received MA in Adult Education in December 2005 from East Carolina University.

Berengére Phillips has served as Assistant Director of Fraternity and Sorority Life since March 2018. In this role, she currently advises the Intercultural Greek Council and Order of Omega. In addition, she also spearheads office programming and the FSL Chapter Excellence Awards Banquet.  Berengére holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Human Resources and a minor in Spanish from North Carolina State University and a Master’s of Education in Student Personnel Administration in Higher Education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She is a Spring 2010 initiate of the Mu Omicron chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

 Whitney Caldwell has served as Assistant Director of Fraternity and Sorority Life Office since November 2022. In this role, she advises organizations that report to Fraternity and Sorority Life including but not limited to National Pan-Hellenic Council and the Multicultural Greek Council. Whitney is a native of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Family Life Education with a concentration in Child Development from the University of Central Oklahoma and a Master of Education in Higher Education with a concentration in Student Affairs from the University of Oklahoma. Prior to working at UNC-Chapel Hill, Whitney served as an Area Coordinator within Housing and Residence Life at North Carolina A&T State University and as a Residence Director at Texas State University. Whitney is a Spring 2010 initiate of the Beta Beta chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

Jomar Ponce Gamez is a 3rd year Political Science and Global Studies double major with a minor in Spanish for the Legal Professions. Jomar is currently the President of the Intercultural Greek Council, the largest multicultural organization at UNC and Secretary of the Alpha Iota chapter of La Unidad Latina, Lambda Upsilon Lambda Fraternity, Inc. Driven by passion for leadership and community service, Jomar aspires to become an attorney dedicated to advocating for underrepresented communities and their advancement through meaningful systemic change.

Ty Besses serves as the National Pan-Hellenic Council President for the 2026 calendar year. In his role he oversees strategic planning, executive operations, and collaboration across eight chapters of historically Black Greek Letter fraternities and sororities at UNC-Chapel Hill. Ty is a junior pursuing a Public Policy and History double major with a minor in Entrepreneurship. He is a Fall 2024 initiate of the Psi Delta Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.

Graylin Olivieri serves as the Panhellenic Association President where she leads the Panhellenic community in fostering collaboration, scholarship, leadership, and sisterhood across all nine of the council’s chapters. In this role, she works closely with chapter presidents, council officers, and university leaders to support an inclusive Panhellenic sorority experience. Previously, Graylin served as Vice President of Special Events for UNC Panhellenic, planning and executing large-scale events. She is an active member of Zeta Tau Alpha and is passionate about empowering women, building meaningful connections, supporting philanthropic initiatives, and leaving a lasting impact on the Carolina community.

Nicholas is a double major in Computer Science and Psychology with a minor in Business Administration at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He currently serves as the Interfraternity Council (IFC) President, leading the University’s largest men’s organization and representing the interests of its nearly 20 member chapters. In this role, he works to strengthen community standards, enhance collaboration across chapters, and support a values-driven fraternity experience. He is committed to fostering a stronger sense of belonging across the IFC community and strives to leave the organization better than he found it while paving the way for those who follow. Previously, Nicholas served as IFC Vice President of Internal Affairs and Vice President of Judicial Affairs, where he focused on organizational operations, accountability, and policy enforcement. He is also an active member of Delta Upsilon, which he joined in Fall 2023 and where he served as Vice President during the 2024–2025 academic year.
